the train line
Built in the 1870s, the iconic Hotel du Lac has watched over the Bretaye ski basin for 150 years. It sits at 1,800 metres, ski-in and ski-out, with the panorama of the Alps in every direction.
Over the winter there is no access by vehicle. You arrive the way visitors have since the railway line opened in 1913, on the cog train from Villars-sur-Ollon that climbs through pine forest, opening onto the south-facing slopes, where the hotel and its lake come into view.
